February 28th, 2016

So it looks like next weekend will be the uneventful weekend! It seems like my mom and I both have the flu now. So much for that 4 strand flu shot we both got!

Anyway, Mia is feeling so much better which is great! She has also been eating good the past 2 days! It seems like Mia just has a residual cough left from being sick. The boys were both on tamiflu as a preventative and are doing great! Ryan has recovered from the croup which was mild and he had a great birthday celebration here with family on Thursday night. Logan is the healthiest one in the house which is funny because that's a rarity!

Mike and his parents have been busy watching the kids and disinfecting the house. Hoping it ends here! Have a great week!

Mia is feeling much better and making improvements every day! Poor Nana and Ryan aren't feeling well. We are hoping they both recover fast!

Mia's blood cultures have been negative for any bacterial growth which is great news. Monmouth medical center called today and said she had a urinary tract infection, but after talking to CHOP they have agreed that there are only contaminants in her urine and she will not be treated for it. If she gets another fever, they will take another culture and treat her with antibiotics.

After an exciting week, we are looking forward to an uneventful weekend! Thank you for all of the messages and texts this week about Mia. Your constant thoughts and encouragement have been a blessing as always!

After a late night last night, Mia is feeling better! Her fever broke and she even had a few bites of eggs today. She's been relaxing and watching Mickey and Doc McStuffins which are her favorite shows. Hoping to see more improvements tomorrow on Ryan's birthday! Have a great night!

We just arrived home. Mia is exhausted but feeling better on Tylenol and started tamiflu. Just gave her chemo and we are off to bed! Thank you again for keeping us in your prayers! Good night!

Still in the ER getting fluids and waiting for one more test to come back. So far she's positive for Influenza B. I knew something was up with her yesterday but she didn't spike until this afternoon. Waiting to talk to the on call Chop Doctor also to confirm that he wants her to take Tamiflu and whether we give her chemo tonight. It's looking like another long night! Thank you for keeping her in your prayers!

Mia is back in the ER. We were heading to CHOP and Mia started looking worse in the car so turned around and went to Monmouth. She's irritated and 102.2 now, up a degree from the house. Waiting on the nurse to start an IV, take labs, and get another urine culture. Praying for a quick turn around!

We are so thankful to a friend for getting her seen in the ER quick and bypassing the waiting room!

I completely forgot to tell you that nothing grew from either culture so that's a great! She even ate 2 slices of cheese for dinner! Hopefully she tries to eat more tomorrow. Have a great night!

February 22nd, 2016

Quick update: Mia is continuing to make improvements today! Unfortunately, she is refusing to eat, but has been drinking. She's been playing and having fun Nana. Hopefully, she will begin eating tomorrow.

So Mia definitely had the Norovirus as they suspected last night. She hasn't vomited since this morning and her fever broke as well. She has been attempting to eat different foods which is great and is drinking again. We haven't heard anything from her cultures because 24 hours is now. We don't think anything will grow from the blood culture, but are curious to see what her urine culture shows because she's been complaining a little. She is definitely weak but bouncing back slowly. We relaxed and watched her favorite shows today! Looking forward to seeing more improvements tomorrow and hoping it doesn't affect anyone else.

Have a great week!

February 21st, 2016

Well, so much for the uneventful weekend! Mia woke up from her nap yesterday irritated and with a low grade fever and began vomiting.

Of course, this is when Ryan was scheduled to celebrate his birthday with a few friends. Mike and my mom stayed with Mia waiting to see if she would meet the criteria for an ER visit. We are so lucky that Mia has such an amazing Nana who helps take care of her! A good friend took Logan for a play date and I took Ryan to celebrate as planned.

My mom and Mike headed to the ER around 6:30 pm. I was able to finish celebrating with Ryan and then I headed to the ER. She received IV antibiotics and some fluids. They also took a urine sample. We got home after midnight.

Unfortunately, now we wait to see if anything grows from both her blood and urine cultures. They will check both at the 24, 48, and 72 hour mark. Her urine sample came back positive initially but they said because there were no white blood cells present it's considered inconclusive.

She woke up with another low grade fever this morning. Hoping this passes quickly and that nothing grows. If something grows from either culture then she will be admitted to CHOP. Please keep her in your prayers! Thank you as always!

Mia did great today at the clinic! She received her spinal tap and IV chemo and did great! She will start steroids today, which we always dread but again things could be worse. Eating has still been an issue but everyday is different. There really isn't anything that she will consistently, even sausage!

Her neutrophil count dropped again, this is her ability to fight off infection. Her neutrophil count was 794 today. Just to give you an idea, a healthy child's neutrophil count is between 3000-4000. Luckily, she has missed strep, a viral infection, and croup from Logan. Even though we are always extra cautious about her staying healthy, we will continue to be on alert for any fevers. We will repeat her blood work in 2 weeks, and then will discuss any medication changes.

Mia and the boys had a great Valentine's Day! We look forward to celebrating Ryan's birthday next week. Last year, we had to leave for Chop as she spiked a fever on his actual birthday so we are looking forward to an uneventful day for him!

We hope everyone is having a great week!
